Ozone (Smog) Health Hazards

Exposure to ozone levels at or even below health-based air quality standards can produce significant decreases in lung function, inflammation of the lung lining and respiratory discomfort. Ozone may cause or aggravate lung diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Inhaling unhealthy levels of ozone can result in breathing problems, chest pains, coughing, and wheezing. Smog can also aggravate allergies and reduce the lung capacity in children.
