July at the Dell Diamond
by J.R. Howard
![]()
About 25 of us met at the Dell
Bob Paine then introduced our tour guides, Clint Bell and Todd Moore.
They showed us around the concourse where there are party rooms, pool, picnic area, gymnasium, team family room, conference centers, private boxes, production and
news rooms, etc. I didn't check the math, but there are 7816 seats plus seating
on the grass for 4 women's and 4 men's rooms. And they say their toilet
fixture counts exceed city codes, ADA and State Potty Parity Requirements.
The beer is only a dollar on Thursdays, and I bet there are lines at the
latrines. The average number of people per point of sale is 300.
It's a great place, and the attendance record is remarkable. When you log
onto their site, you can get on the mailing list for all the promotional nights.

Make sure your facilities are ADA compliant
Historic Buildings
Historically significant buildings present
unique accessibility challenges. Many colleges and municipalities have
programs and services in older and historic structures.
Some people mistakenly believe that these buildings are exempt from ADA compliance requirements. This is not true, but there is some flexibility in how to achieve compliance.
To be considered historically
significant, a building or property must be listed or eligible for listing in
the National Register of Historic Places. Or the property must be qualified
as historic under state or local regulations.
Structural changes to qualifying facilities that would threaten or destroy
the historical significance of the property may be avoided if an acceptable
alternative can be found. But this does not mean that the problem can be
ignored or a solution indefinitely deferred.
In these instances, you must be creative and consider alternatives, such as using ADA compliant audio-visual materials to create a tour of any inaccessible portions of the facility. Or you must provide alternative accessible locations for any programs or public functions that are housed in the historic structure.
