Directors of Facilities

ARAMARK believes that the facilities of a college or university - next to its faculty, students, and staff - constitute its most important asset. So the provision of adequate financial resources for the operation, maintenance and planning of college or university’s facilities has become one of the most significant challenges facing higher education today.

ARAMARK has developed a proven approach to leadership of facilities management that promotes and creates a physical environment supportive of the educational, residential, social and athletic programs on a campus. They understand that, in the right environment, students and faculty are allowed to flourish.

ARAMARK’s broad portfolio of campus facilities management services, include:

  • Comprehensive Facilities Management
  • Plant Operations and Maintenance
  • Custodial
  • Grounds and Landscaping
  • Energy Management
  • Utility Master Planning
  • Capital Program Management
  • Building Systems Commissioning Specialized Technical and Financial Services

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to an administrative executive of a specific campus client (while simultaneously reporting to an off-site, ARAMARK District Manager), the Facilities Director will direct facilities operations, including but not limited to, plant engineering, maintenance, custodial and grounds services. Directors will also be responsible for overseeing construction and renovation project planning and implementation. Budgeting labor, supplies, equipment and related services/materials required for cost-effective operations is also expected.

Regular surveys and measurements of the performance and value of service delivery progress and results, as determined by the client, must be composed and completed. Results must be analyzed and communicated with the client. Subsequently, findings and feedback must be utilized to create continual improvement.

Leading a diverse workforce of administrative, service, trade and support staff is paramount to successful facilities management. The Director must engage and empower this workforce through training, delegation and mentoring to produce a strong service and delivery organization.

EXPECTATIONS and CHALLENGES

A central challenge facing the Director is to provide leadership to achieve exceptional operational and financial performance. Planning and linking facilities management with the strategic vision and service interests of the client must accomplish this goal. By looking beyond the satisfaction gained from the quick completion of tasks, strategic solutions should be formulated and advanced for long-term institutional value. By becoming immersed in and knowledgeable about the culture of the campus and issues of each service unit, the Director should recognize opportunities to offer solutions and/or assist in development, implementation, resource utilization or organizational coordination necessary to achieve desired strategic results.

The Director must strive to create a contemporary service organization that is proactive and collaborative which reaches out to customers to understand their needs and problems, acknowledges common priorities and earns the support and assistance of others. Establishing effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents and other administrative units can do this. Visible, active leadership is absolutely essential.

The Director must be adept in communicating plans, progress, results and achievements to an array of clients, customers, colleagues, subordinates and ARAMARK officers. Whether in one-on-one sessions, group meetings or using verbal presentations or written/computer reports, the Director must be clear and persuasive.

Finally, ARAMARK expects that a Facilities Director will grow, develop and advance. Whether advancing to another higher education client in or outside of Texas or moving into a different position within the Corporation, a Director will have access to formal, annual career development programs and training to clarify and prepare for the future.
